This 20-day
Everest trek has everything: the incredible mountain views
from Chukung, Kala Pathar and Gokyo Ri. Popularly known as
"The Ultimate Trek," it includes all that the Khumbu has to
offer including the fascinating villages and Tibetan Buddhist
monasteries and the culture and hospitality of the Sherpa
people, who will surely win your hearts. After starting with a
flight to Lukla (2,805m/9,200ft) we trek up to Kala Pathar
view point (5,550m/18,200ft) and then veer off the main trail
to cross the Cho La pass (5,422m/17,783ft) into the Gokyo
Valley. To top off this unique trek we climb Gokyo Ri
(5,488m/18,000ft) for a panoramic view of the greatest
mountain scenery in the world - including five
8000+m/26,000+ft giants and myrid other peaks of the Khumbu
Himal.
The Sherpa
settled in the Khumbu highlands some 450 years ago bring
Tibetan Buddhism in the form of ornate monasteries, carved
prayer Mani stones and a never ending joy of life some moved
lower to Solu, a land rich in resources and of temperate
climate. The annual Mani Rimdu Festival at Tyangboche (usually
during November) and at other monasteries enacts ritual dance
dramas of good verses evil.
About 3500 Sherpa people reside in various settlements within
the park. The Sherpa people originated into eastern Tibetan
province of Kham. They left original home in the late 1400s or
early 1500s crossing over the Nang Pa La (pass) into Nepal.
The Sherpa people follow the Nyingma Pa Sect of Tibetan
Buddhism. The famous Tengboche and other monasteries are the
common gathering place to celebrate religious festival such as
Dumje and mani Rimdu.
